Edd’s Thailändische Spezialitäten

Chef Edd used to work in the Royal Palace in Bangkok, and the Princess of Thailand eats here when she comes to Berlin. Luscious twice-baked duck in green curry sauce with exotic fresh Thai vegetables, green mango salad in rich sauce (good to share) … the food packs heat but doesn’t overwhelm the taste buds. For any true Thai food aficionado, Edd’s, although pricey, is an absolute must. Lützowstr. 81, U-Bhf Kurfürstenstr., Tel 215 5294, Tue-Fri 11:30-15:00 and 18:00-24:00, Sat 17:00-late, Sun 14:00-24:00, main courses 14.50-24 euros, cash only

Malago

Words do not describe the taste sensation that is Malago. Knock yourself out with a Thai chicken soup for the soul or try their most talked about spring (summer) rolls. Mains are a tad too hot for the European palate, so request ‘easy on the scharf’. Don’t be fooled, when they say piquant they mean hot, and if you are, try their 2.90 euro iced coffee: strong, sweet and life saving. With more selection than its big brother ‘Papaya’ over the road, you’ll be too enraptured with your food to notice the cool atmosphere and friendly staff. Krossener Str. 15, U-Bhf Frankfurter Tor, Tel 2977 1231, daily 18:00-1:00,
    from 6.30-11.60 euros, cash only

Hohenstaufenstr. 4, Schöneberg, Tel 2101 6601, open daily 10:00-02:00, Fri & Sat till later

Pagode

Open from midday to midnight, this delicious Thai place delivers fresh, authentic grub in lightning speed. Pagode is funky and vibrant. The open kitchen permeates the restaurant with smells and spices and the constant chattering of the effervescent cooks. If you like it hot, try the ‘Spicy Beef Salad’ - packed with chilies, it’s sure to leave your tongue zinging. Cool down with a fresh mango lassie. ‘Tom Kah Gai’ soup is also a top favorite. Bergmannstr. 88, U-Bhf Gneisenaustr., Tel 691 2640, www.pagode-thaifood.de, open daily 24 hours, main courses 2.50-9 euros, cash only
