Summer Fun

Berlin has parks aplenty, the most popular in the city centre being the vast TiergartenVolkspark Friedrichshain, Treptower Park (with a mammoth Soviet monument and rowing facilities) and Viktoria Park in Kreuzberg. But it’s worth paying a few euros to enjoy a swim at one of many outdoor pool and lake facilities, including at the Olympiastadion itself:

Sommerbad Kreuzberg

Like Kreuzberg itself you find a mixed crowd here lounging on a big grass area or making the most of three pools. Prinzenstr. 113, opposite U-Bhf Prinzenstrasse, 7am-8pm.

Sommerbad Olympiastadion

Built like the stadium itself for the 1936 Olympics, you can swim and admire the fabulous architecture. Open 7am-8pm at Olympischer Platz, 20 min walk from U-Bhf Olympia-Stadion.

Strandbad Müggelsee

A sandy gem away from the bustle in the east of the city and well worth the trek. S-Bhf Friedrichshagen then tram 61. 10am-7pm.

Strandbad Wannsee

The closest thing to a beach atmosphere located a 20-minute walk from S-Bhf Nikolasee, open 10am-8pm.
